In the case of Ebola vaccine acceptance, Kasereka and colleagues reported that there was high community acceptability for the vaccine in the DRC (“72% of unvaccinated community controls would wish to be vaccinated if supply were available”).31 This did not play out in actual practice, though, where I routinely noted less than 20% uptake of individuals who were offered the vaccine. Given the border gnosis highlighted above, we should view this lack of uptake as part of the structured disposition for eluding depredation described earlier.
